botox for overactive bladder

There are many different types of treatments for overactive bladder. One of the most effective is a Botox injection into the bladder.

The Botox injection is a well-established treatment for overactive bladder and urgency incontinence, but not everyone with overactive bladder needs to have it injected.

Botox injections are used to treat other conditions, including wrinkles and migraines, so you might be familiar with the term. For overactive bladder and urgency incontinence, a small amount of the drug is injected into your bladder muscle through a thin tube called a catheter, which is inserted into your urethra (the tube that carries urine from your bladder to outside your body). The drug helps relax the muscle in your bladder wall, which can help control the symptoms of overactive bladder, such as frequent urination.

Botox injections aren't recommended if you have severe kidney or liver disease or if you're allergic to any ingredient in botulinum toxin type A (Botox).
